About this guide

This guide explains how to prepare your facility for the installation of EGYM machines.

For more information about EGYM Smart Strength, eco, Smart Flex, Fitness Hub, and Fitness Hub seca edition, see the corresponding owner’s manual.

Caution

If site preparation requirements are not met, delivery will be postponed and additional costs will be invoiced.

Pre-installation checklist

Complete this checklist before delivery.

  • Send pictures and videos of your facility to EGYM Order Management, showing the pathway from the delivery access point to the installation areas. 

  • Define machine locations (refer to Machine space requirements).

    • Contact your EGYM representative about a room plan; an EGYM room plan is required for orders of 3 or more machines. 

    • Follow the Fitness Hub placement recommendations to ensure accurate camera measurements.

  • Confirm the floor has sufficient load-bearing capacity for the machines (refer to Machine weights and dimensions).

  • Install a grounded power outlet within 1 m (3 ft) of each machine location.

  • Plan the WiFi router location or LAN cable routing. 

    Note

    LAN connection is required for the Fitness Hub. A 2 m LAN cable is included with a Fitness Hub order. 

    • Define the LAN cable route to each machine (refer to LAN requirements), or

    • Define the EGYM router location within 15 m (50 ft) of the machines (refer to Wi-Fi requirements). 

  • Prepare cable management (refer to Cable management options).

  • Contact an electrician to determine the required number of RCCBs and OCPDs. Tell your electrician:

    • the number of machines

    • the rated current of each machine

  • Check regional voltage and plug requirements (refer to Power requirements).

  • If you want to switch all machines on/off simultaneously, ask your electrician to install a panel switch.

  • Secure a broadband connection with a bandwidth of at least 5 Mbit/s (download), 1 Mbit/s (upload) per EGYM machine (see Network requirements).

    Note

    Contact your internet service provider as soon as possible. An active internet connection is required for installation.

  • Make an appointment with a qualified IT technician.

  • Activate a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server.

    • Set DHCP lease time to a maximum of 12 hours.

    • Exclude IP address ranges 10.9.x.x and 10.11.x.x in the DHCP server.

    • Ensure the IP address pool is large enough for 2x the number of planned machines (>100 recommended).

  • Configure firewall to allow EGYM IP addresses and ports.

  • Confirm whether RFID wristbands are included in your order or need to be ordered separately, or

  • Verify third-party RFID compatibility.

  • Check with EGYM Order Management whether a scale is included in your order or needs to be added.

  • (Optional) Add a platform scale or a body composition scale to your order. 

  • If you order a body composition scale, start the integration process with the scale manufacturer (see Scale integration overview).

Define machine locations

Machine weights may vary by ± 5kg depending on configuration.

Caution

An additional 60 cm of space is required to allow access to each machine. This space can be shared between machines.

Note

Note

If you need to move the machine to a different location, contact EGYM Support.

Do

  • Ensure a minimum ceiling height of 3 m (9 ft 10 in) at the installation location.

  • Place the machine on firm, stable ground.

  • Face the screen towards a wall for user privacy.

Don't

  • Do not expose the screen to direct sunlight.

  • Do not point lights into the camera. 

  • Do not face the screen towards reflective surfaces. 

  • Do not place the machine near equipment that causes strong vibrations.

  • Do not place the machine near heat sources.

  • Do not install the machine in areas with high humidity.

If you need to move the machine to a different location, contact EGYM Support.

Prepare electrical infrastructure

Caution

  • The power cord must be accessible.

  • The power cord must not be knotted, twisted, or trapped under any objects.

  • Ensure the power cord cannot be stood on or tripped over. 

  • Each machine must be directly connected to a separate power outlet. Do not use extension cables or multi-distribution sockets.

Caution

* The M20 Squat can operate with different voltage configurations. The higher voltage configuration allows higher training weights. Before installing the machine with a high voltage outlet, check your machine’s configuration. The M20 voltage configuration may only be changed by an EGYM service technician.

Overcurrent Protection Devices (OCPDs), such as circuit breakers, protect electrical circuits from overload.

Caution

Contact a certified electrician to choose suitable OCPDs.

  • Use a circuit breaker with a short-time delay (magnetic trip threshold between 3 to 5 times the rated current)

  • Machines per OCPD: the sum of the rated currents must not exceed the nominal rating of the OCPD.

Caution

Do not use the OCPD to turn the machines on/off.

Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCCBs) protect against leakage currents.

Note

A Type B+ RCCB is not recommended; the high frequency sensitivity can trip the circuit breaker unnecessarily.

Caution

Do not use RCCBs to switch machines on or off.

Scale integration overview

Note

For the Fitness Hub seca edition, scale integration is not necessary.

For a full list of compatible scales, visit the EGYM website:

Scales can be purchased directly from the manufacturer. Check with the scale manufacturer whether any additional cables are required, and refer to the scale user manual for placement and cabling instructions.

Some third-party scales must be activated before they can connect to the EGYM cloud. Contact EGYM Order Management for details.

Network configuration

EGYM machines need reliable Internet access and should not share limited bandwidth with high-usage systems, such as guest Wi-Fi or streaming services. A separate Internet connection for EGYM machines is recommended, but not required.

Ensure sufficient bandwidth: 

  • 5 Mbit/s (download) per EGYM machine,

  • 1 Mbit/s (upload) per EGYM machine, and 

  • 1-2 Mbit/s (download) per gym member, if movie or music streaming services are provided. 

Note

Contact your internet service provider as soon as possible. An active internet connection is required for installation.

EGYM recommends using a LAN connection.

  • Make sure there is a LAN port at each machine location, or

  • Route a CAT6 LAN cable to each machine with 3 m (10ft) excess length.

Note

Wi-Fi configuration is only available if you use an EGYM router. An EGYM technician can assist with the EGYM router installation. 

Warning

Do not press factory reset button on the EGYM router; this disconnects machines from the network and removes configurations. 

  • Connect the router to a designated power outlet.

  • Connect the router to the network via LAN cable. 

  • Router position: 

    • 1.5 meters (5 ft) above the floor, not on the ground. 

    • Within 15 meters (50 ft) of the machines, ideally with direct line of sight.

    • Away from sources of interference, such as as other Wi-Fi equipment, DECT telephones, loudspeakers, Bluetooth devices, microwaves, or electrical cardio equipment.

    • Away from large metallic items such as heaters or iron training weights.

    Note

    The transmission quality is strongly dependent on the location of the router. 

    EGYM recommends approximately 15 machines within a 15 m (50 ft) radius around the router. For EGYM machines more than 15 meters (50 ft) from the router, request a wireless access point and connect it to the EGYM router.

Incorrectly configured Firewalls could cause issues with the EGYM machines. Allow exceptions for the IP addresses and ports in the following table.

The space between the machine base and the floor varies by machine type:

Sockets and LAN connections are in a housing box, installed behind or between machines.

Advantages

  • Machines must be positioned side-by-side.

  • The housing boxes could be a trip hazard.

  • No additional space required, making it a practical option for existing facilities.

Considerations

  • The raised platform could be a trip hazard.

  • Floor box positions must match the final machine layout.

Power and LAN cables are routed through cable trunking.

Cable trunking

Advantages

  • No additional space required, making it a practical option for existing facilities.

  • Cable trunking can be installed quickly.

Considerations

  • Cable trunking has limited space for cables.

  • The trunking must be firmly attached to the floor.

  • The color can be noticeable against the floor.

The power and LAN cables are routed vertically through tubing.

  • Tubing must be placed carefully to avoid creating an obstruction.

  • The tubing is visible and changes the appearance of a room.

Caution

Do not install EGYM machines over surface-mounted floor sockets. There is not enough space underneath the machine and this may cause damage.

Login method

To log in to EGYM equipment, members need a user account (EGYM ID). To protect data privacy, each member should have their own account.

EGYM Series 3 machines support RFID login, NFC login, or both. The machines can display the supported login media and login guidance. The supported login media available in your gym can be configured in the EGYM Business Suite.

RFID chip (wristband or card)

We recommend using EGYM branded RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) wristbands.

  • RFID chips not provided by EGYM (e.g. MIFARE or LEGIC chips) must be verified by EGYM Order Management. Send 2 sample RFID chips to EGYM SE with a copy of the manufacturer data sheet at least 4 weeks before implementation.

  • EGYM machines support RFID login using the MIFARE standard. For LEGIC compatibility, a special RFID reader variant is required. Contact EGYM Order Management before delivery to ensure your login medium is supported.

NFC pass (smartphone)

NFC login can be used with Apple Wallet (VAS) and Google Smart Tap.

To enable NFC login, an NFC pass can be generated in the EGYM Branded Member App. If your gym uses a different NFC pass provider, contact EGYM Support.
